The 8 Products You Need To Achieve That Summer Glow
1. Toner Finding a toner that fits your skin concerns can be a game changer in your skin care routine. It’s recommended that you use a toner twice a day, once in the morning to remove any debris that came in contact with your skin while you were asleep & again during your night time routine to remove build up that came in contact with your skin throughout the day. Using a toner is a great extra step to take after using a make up remover and cleanser. You will be surprised that even after removing your make up and cleansing your face, your skin will still have some makeup left over within your pores that the toner helps properly remove. If you are still questioning the benefits of using a toner in your routine here’s an example that stuck out to me a few years back. Imagine pouring yourself a glass of wine but your mouth is taped over with a paper towel. When you go to drink the wine will you be able to drink the wine ? No, of course not. The paper towel represents the lack of toner. Using the toner removes the paper towel from being in the way and now when you apply your skin care products they will better penetrate into your skin and you’ll get more of the benefits, compared to the products just sitting on your face. The use of a toner is especially beneficial for acne prone skin. My current favorite toners are : White Willow Bark Face Toner & Cucumber Face Toner from Whitney’s Naturals.
2. Serum Following up with a serum after applying your toner will allow the serum to achieve its full benefits. I personally prefer a serum over an oil because I’ve noticed it penetrates into the skin deeper and leaves the natural glow I’m looking for. I wait about 30 seconds for my toner to set into the skin. Then when applying the serum I press it into my skin. Pro Tip: Applying your thinnest products first allows for full benefits of your skin care products. Some of my favorite serums include: Clarins Double Serum Complete Age Control Concentrate & Sunshine Elixir Facial Serum
3. Moisturizer Picking a moisturizer that fits your skin concerns to follow up after using a toner will allow your skin to look more supple and prepped for a light makeup look. Lets be real applying heavy makeup during the summer feels like your face is melting. I have a few favorite moisturizers that give me that effortless glow and bring my skin back to life with every use. My skin type is sensitive, dry skin and acne-prone, therefore I am very picky with my products. Three of my favorite moisturizers for a healthy glow: Ole Henriksen C-Rush Vitamin C Gel Moisturizer , Whitney Naturals Brightening Face Cream & Whitney Naturals Cucumber Face Moisturizer. A good consistent skin routine leads to effortless makeup application with little to no need for coverage
4. Eye Cream Its never too early to start using an eye cream in your routine. The younger you are the better off you are starting out early. The under eye is a delicate piece of skin that is unlike any other skin on the face. Therefore, a cream used specifically for that area is necessary. Using an eye cream has many benefits but two of the most popular include preventing wrinkles and dark circles. Applying an eye cream before concealer will allow for an effortless makeup application and lessen the appearance of creases overtime. My favorite eye cream is the Avocado Eye Cream From Whitney Naturals.
5. SPF If you’re going to skip any recommendation on this list I would not recommend you skip this one. Proper use of an SPF is crucial to the aging and look of your skin overtime. Over exposure of UV rays without the proper protection can be dangerous for the skin. The over exposure to the sun is known to cause wrinkles, scarring, aging and skin cancer. Using an SPF is a crucial part of your skin care routine you may have been neglecting but now that you know why its important I highly recommend purchasing one that works for you. If you use a toner daily or a cream infused with vitamin c you definitely want to protect your skin from the sun, these products do make your skin sensitive. It is also important to reapply the sunscreen every 30 minutes because unfortunately it does disappear off your skin, so applying just once will not protect you all day. I recommend using a mineral sunscreen over a chemical sunscreen because anything you apply on your skin goes into your blood stream, you want to avoid those toxins. My all time favorite is the Elta MD UV Clear Broad- Spectrum SPF 46.
6. Skin Tint or BB Cream Let’s Glow! A light weight skin tint or BB cream can take your skin from summer glow to whoa who’s that? A skin tint or BB cream are lighter than your normal foundation and are known to add an extra glow to your skin that you may be looking for during the summer months. This product type is great at concealing light marks on your face you may be trying to conceal or small pimples your trying to hide. Finding a good one can be overwhelming since there are so many out there but don’t worry I have you guys covered. Lancome Skin Feels Good and Maybelline Dream Pure BB Cream have been in my rotation for years. Both these products have SPF so that’s an added bonus! My all time favorite is from Lancôme, I never allow myself to run out of it, it is truly versatile for year round use. During the colder months I mix a few drops into my foundation to give myself an extra glow. I always purchase a shade that’s slightly darker than my skin tone since I know I will get tan during the summer.
7. Cream Bronzer The KEY to a natural glow when your not really tan but want to add color to your face. Cream Bronzers add color to your face and the creamy texture allows that tan to appear more natural on the skin. The two products I use the most in the summer are from: Maybelline FIT Me Foundation Stick in Coconut & KKW Creme Contour Stick.
8. Highlight Lastly, apply a pressed powder or cream highlight to the high points of your face: bridge of your nose, high points of your cheeks, and right above your cupids bow. Adding a subtle glow to these parts of your face will complete your natural summer glow look.
